Water Loss as a Percentage of Total Production
KPI Details
Water Loss as a Percentage of Total Production measures the amount of water lost due to leakage in company distribution pipes in relation to the total amount of water produced by the company over the same period of time. A relatively high value for this metric is typically related to a few common factors, including poor quality of the materials used to create the water distribution pipes, poorly designed water transmission networks (distance from facilities, substations, etc.), and/or subpar equipment maintenance and management practices. Natural conditions (i.e., temperature, weather conditions, earthquakes, etc.) may also impact such losses. Excessive values for this metric can lead to poor customer satisfaction and high attrition rates.
KPI Definition
The amount of water lost due to leakage in company distribution pipes divided by the total amount of water produced by the company over the same period of time, as a percentage.
KPI Best Practices
- Keep accurate and reliable data on water production and use, and review them regularly
- Keep records of leaks to identify root causes or systematic issues
- Properly maintain pipes and valves to prevent leaks from occurring
KPI Calculation Instructions Water Loss as a Percentage of Total Production?
Two values are used to calculate this KPI: (1) the amount of water lost due to leakage in company distribution pipes, and (2) the total amount of water produced by the company over the same period of time. Include all types of water pipe leakage (whether due to poor quality water distribution equipment, poorly designed transmission networks, natural occurrences and/or disasters, sub-par equipment maintenance and management practices, etc.) in this calculation. Include all water pipes the utility company uses to distribute the water it generates (whether the pipes are to be used to transport drinking water, water meant for restrooms, etc.) in this calculation.
KPI Formula :
(Amount of Water Lost Due to Leakage / Total Amount of Water Generated) * 100
